Week 10 at Bochum Part3

Besides the 2 famous things-beer&soccer, I had also visited some places in Munich.

1. Odeonsplatz

Odeonsplatz is a large square in central Munich which was named after the former concert hall Odeon. Odeonsplatz had the Feldherrnhalle and the Theatine Church

The Feldherrnhalle was a monumental loggia in Munich. It was built between 1841 and 1844. It was a symbol of the honours of the Bavarian Army. It contains statues of military leaders Johann Tilly and Karl Philipp von Wrede.

2. Englischer Garten:

The Englischer Garten was a large public park in the centre of Munich, it was one of the world's largest urban public parks

It was place for you to relax and get close with the natural, looks like East Coast Park in Singapore.

Carriage-It was the most traditional transportation.

With such nice environment even ducks also came out and enjoy it.

P.S: I found something different in Europe, the animals here were not scare of human.

The Chinesischer Turm was a 25 metre high wooden structure, from a design by the Mannheimer military architect Joseph Frey. It was the landmark of Englischer Garten.

3. Olympiapark

The Olympiapark in Munich was constructed for the 1972 Summer Olympics. The Park continues to serve as a venue for cultural, social, and religious events such as events of worship.

Overview of the park.

The most important thing in the park was the Olympiastadion(Olympic stadium)

The Olympiastadion was situated at the heart of the Olympiapark. The stadium was built as the main venue for the 1972 Summer Olympics. It had a capacity of 80,000, the stadium also hosted many major soccer matches including the 1974 World Cup Final, in which West Germany beat the Netherlands 2-1. The Euro '88 Final was played there, in which the Netherlands fared better, beating the Soviet Union 2-0, including a famous volleyed goal from Marco van Basten. In 2001, it hosted England's famous 5-1 win over Germany in a qualifying match for the 2002 World Cup. It also hosted the European Cup Finals of 1979, 1993 and 1997.Until the construction of the Allianz Arena for the 2006 World Cup, the stadium was home to Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich. Therefore it also was a famous soccer stadium in Germany.

Am I the only audience?haha

Another important place in the park was the Olympiahalle.

Olympiahalle was a multi-purpose arena. It was used for concerts, sporting events, exhibitions or trade fairs. In the past, it served as a part-time home for the defunct ice hockey team EC Hedos München. Olympiahalle opened in 1972 and was the venue for gymnastics and handball events at the 197 Summer Olympics. The seating capacity for the arena varies from 14,000.

Olympiahalle also plays hosts to the annual Munich Sixdays, a very popular international track-cycling competition.

The Olympiaturm in Olympiapark had an overall height of 291 m and a weight of 52,500 tons. At a height of 190 m there is an observation platform as well as a small rock and roll museum housing various memorabilia.
